GEORGETOWN, Guyana, (DPI) – In an unprecedented show of solidarity, Georgetown witnessed a low pass flyover by a United States of America (USA) aircraft, in recognition of Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s swearing-in as Guyana’s 9th executive president for the next five years to “turn ambition into reality.”
This dynamic aerial demonstration, conducted in collaboration with the Guyana Defence Force, symbolises both defence interoperability and shared dedication to regional stability.
In his inaugural remarks, president Ali thanked every Guyanese citizen who cast their vote in the general elections on September 1, 2025, and pledged that the journey toward prosperity would accelerate.
“You have once more entrusted me to serve as your president…Your fervor energy and passion in which you supported me and my party will be indelibly edged in my heart,” president Ali said. “I extend my sincerest gratitude to the outgoing cabinet…their efforts laid the foundation for the years ahead.“
Since establishing diplomatic ties on August 15, 1966, Guyana and the United States have collaborated across multiple spheres. These include trade, governance, education, immigration, and notably, security and defence.
The partnership remains grounded in mutual respect, shared values, and a joint dedication to protecting Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In March 2025, president Ali and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio cemented this commitment by signing an enhanced Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation in areas such as transnational organised crime, narcotrafficking, money laundering, and other forms of smuggling.
Key frameworks for information sharing and military-to-military collaboration were also established.
Economically, the partnership continues to flourish; bilateral trade has reached a record US$4.7 billion, as confirmed by US ambassador Nicole Theriot. Joint operations, including coordinated drug interdictions and defence initiatives, underscore the depth of cooperation.
President Ali continues to champion a shared vision of peace, resilience, and regional progress, rooted in democratic values and institutional harmony.
As Guyana charts its future, its partnership with the United States stands as a cornerstone of sovereignty and regional peace.
Meanwhile, president Ali announced on Sunday a framework to catapult Guyana’s progress and development in the next five years.
“ Seamless infrastructure between every region, first world health and education services, first world digital infrastructure, advancing our new smart city – Silica City, and a shipping and logistic hub linking Brazil and CARICOM, thereby creating new markets and opening up new opportunities.”
While the government has its plan, president Ali said it must work in tandem with the private sector. He noted that the private sector must stand ready to drive wealth and job creation while ensuring fairness to its workers, upholding social responsibility and contributing to the broader well-being of society.
“I am the president for all Guyanese,”said president Ali:
“As I first declared on the 2nd of August 2020: I am not the President of some Guyanese; I am the President of all Guyana. That principle has guided me these past five years, and it shall remain my compass in the years ahead,” the president stated. “One Guyana is not a slogan — it is a lived ethic. Each of us are equal in dignity, equal in opportunity, and equal in respect. To those of us who did not support me, know this: I am your president too,” he committed.
