KINGSTOWN, St Vincent – The government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Sandals Resorts International officially signed a landmark agreement for the construction of a new Beaches Resort at Mount Wynne, representing a US$500 million (EC$1.35 billion) investment, the largest single tourism development in the nation’s history.

The new 500-room family-friendly Beaches Resort will bring world-class hospitality to the leeward coast of mainland St Vincent, offering a premier all-inclusive experience for families, groups, and multi-generational travellers. The project underscores the government’s continued commitment to expanding the country’s tourism infrastructure, creating sustainable jobs, and enhancing the nation’s global visibility as a premier tourism destination.

The Beaches St Vincent and the Grenadines development will be built in phases and is projected to create almost 2,000 jobs during the operational phase, providing significant employment and training opportunities for Vincentians across multiple sectors, from hospitality and construction to agriculture, culture, and other related industries.

Welcoming the investment, Carlos James, minister of tourism, civil aviation, sustainable development and culture, described the project as a transformative step in the nation’s tourism evolution:

“This investment is a game-changer for St Vincent and the Grenadines. It represents confidence in our tourism sector and also in the Vincentian people, their talent, resilience, and hospitality. The Beaches Resort will open doors to thousands of new jobs, stimulate local enterprise, and position our country as a hub for sustainable, family-oriented tourism. It is a testament to our vision of a tourism industry that drives inclusive economic growth, empowers our communities, and celebrates our natural and cultural heritage.”

The project builds on the successful opening of Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines opened in March 2023, strengthening the partnership between the Government and Sandals Resorts International in elevating the destination’s profile within the Caribbean and beyond.

St Vincent and the Grenadines is experiencing a tourism renaissance, a four major hotel development projects, including Beaches Resort, will significantly expand our hospitality infrastructure and create lasting economic opportunities.

These transformative tourism investments include the Beaches Resort by Sandals Resorts International at Mt. Wynne, a world-class Marriott Hotel at Peter’s Hope, the rebuilding of the iconic Palm Island Tourism Development Project, and the Cumberland Resort and Marina, which will cater to small pleasure crafts and yachting visitors. Collectively, these four projects represent well over EC$2 billion in investment and are expected to create nearly 4,000 jobs, with the Beaches Resort accounting for approximately 2,000, providing significant employment across construction, tourism, hospitality, and supporting industries.

Dolly Parton’s sister calls for fan prayers over health issues

LOS ANGELES, United States (AFP) -- Dolly Parton's sister on Tuesday asked fans to pray for the American country singer, who has postponed several concerts due to health issues.

Parton, 79, last week delayed her upcoming Las Vegas gigs due to unspecified "health challenges," and disclosed that she was set to undergo multiple medical procedures.

"Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly. Many of you know she hasn't been feeling her best lately," wrote Freida Parton on her Facebook page.

"I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been lead to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me."

Dolly Parton had been set to perform six nights of sold-out shows in December at Caesars Palace.

The "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You" singer scrapped those dates last week because her current health meant she would not "be able to rehearse and put together the show that you want to see."

Parton told her millions of followers that she was not ending her glittering career just yet, and said new dates were set for next September.

Parton became a major star in the 1970s, with singles including "Coat of Many Colors," and followed up with smash hits like "I Will Always Love You," famously covered by Whitney Houston, and "9 to 5."

She is due to receive an honorary Oscar next month, but Hollywood trade publication Variety said Parton is no longer expected to attend the Los Angeles ceremony.

Her sister Freida ended her plea for prayers Tuesday with an upbeat note.

"She's strong, she's loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she's going to be just fine," she wrote.

"Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you!"
