Producer Karey Kelly is quite upbeat about one of his latest projects, Honestly — a single by Billboard-charting dancehall artiste Teejay.
Honestly, which samples the beat of the popular 1980’s Rumours rhythm, was released on October 16 via Karey Records.
“A friend of mine had a connection to Teejay and he said he would make the link. He invited Teejay to my studio and I played some beats, and he gravitated to this particular one which samples the Rumours rhythm. It was easy working with Teejay and, to be honest, he is fast in the studio, and he churns out world-class melodies effortlessly,” said Kelly.
The producer has high hopes for the track.
“Honestly is a great song, and the Teejay fans will definitely love this one. We will be going all out to promote this song,” he said.
Kelly has been involved in music production for more than 5 years. However, his love for music developed from an early age when he learnt how to play the drum.
To date, he has worked with several major and emerging acts, among them Chronic Law, Popcaan, Vybz Kartel, Beenie Man, Sizzla, Intence, Jahvillani, Quada, 10Tik, Skeng, Rytikal, and Alaine.
A former student of Wolmer’s Boys’ School, Kelly also studied at the University of Technology, Jamaica.
In his earlier years he was a sprinter and participated in the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ Championship; however, he gave up a career in track and field and shifted his focus to his love for music.
“What I enjoy most about music is the post-production and watching everything come to life. My dream collaboration would be with Damian Marley featuring Chronixx,” shared Kelly.
