Samuel K Golden preaches ‘Love and Sweetness’ through poetry and music

Poet-cum-artiste Samuel K Golden believes that his work, rooted in the authentic self, and delivered with an inner voice that is defined by its honesty will linger in the minds of fans long after he has departed this earth.

He recently released Countdown to Our Time, a song which is the first release of an EP dubbed Footsteps: Love and Sweetness.

"My romantic poetry drove me in this direction to turn loving words into romantic music. I received both fan and industry excitement about the sound of my music and the soft message of love," he said.

In a world which is dotted with armed conflicts, online hate speech targeting immigrants and high divorce rates, Samuel Golden has a simple but quaint philosophy: love conquers all. Golden calls this radical philosophy a “lake of love,” a vision of art as contribution rather than commodity.

“I believe there is still sweetness in the world. I would like to think my poetic music adds to the lake of love,” he said,

Golden’s journey isn’t just about making music—it’s about transforming words meant for the page into songs that live and breathe. He is aided in his musical endeavours by a production team consisting of aspiring young talented up and comers, Michael Winters, Clifford Coats, and Roger Rodriguez.

He has written love poems for years, a ritual which evolved into two published poetry books, and now, a debut album that carries the same name as his second collection.

A part-time artistic force who continues to hold down a steady nine-to-five, Golden has continued to hone his skills during open mic nights at local music restaurants and bars in the Washington area in the USA.

Now, he is ready to take the next step to promote his introspective album. Each track is refined with patience, an extension of his belief that timing matters as much as talent. Golden describes his sound simply as “alternative,” but that label hardly captures its breadth.

"I love music. I love the way it makes me feel. I love being able to transfer my thoughts into lyrical expressions with melodies that resonate to something meaningful. I love seeing people react. Making music helps to make me feel whole. Bring love to others and seeing their joy is next level for me," he said.

Craigy T’s debut EP among Grammy considerations

Popular dancehall artiste Craig “Craigy T” Thompson is celebrating as his debut EP, Unload, is among the Grammy considerations in the Best Reggae Album category.

“It means everything to me. I'm a part of this year's Grammy cycle conversation which means that my name and work have and will continue to appear in new areas of the industry,” Craigy T told Observer Online.

The entertainer released the body of work on November 29, 2024. It peaked at number three on the Reggae iTunes charts, and also catapulted the artiste’s listenership on Spotify, as well as tripled his YouTube subscribers as of early 2025.

He explained that intricate planning and preparation went into perfecting it.

“Wow! (It took) so much time, so much planning. This project was more than just a creative release for me. It was also experimental. I tested many marketing strategies, social media approaches and campaigns and new types of promotion tools. Putting the plan together was a two-year process. Execution was swift,” he said.

He released an accompanying music video for the track Onion shot by Prime Concepts at Ideas Evolution Studios earlier this year. The EP’s production credits are owed to DJ Frodo, as well as Edward Collins and Dean Mundy.

Adding that he remains optimistic, but is ultimately trusting in God’s plan where a nomination is concerned, Craigy T said that the elements to complete a solid body of work are subjective.

“Different strokes for different folks. It's not a cookie-cutter or one-size-fits-all all thing. One key though, is working with people that match your energy,” he said.

The entertainer added: “We have a chance, we are growing, we are unstoppable. Everything is because of the belief and faith you placed in me and my work. I am forever thankful.”

In the meantime, there is another reason to celebrate after legendary dancehall group TOK (which he is a member of) was featured in Billboard’s September Reggae/Dancehall Fresh Picks of The Month for their track True Friends.

“The sky is the limit! TOK, and especially myself, have always been associated with quality work so now the various fruits of our labour are ripening for harvest. And harvest we shall. This is the time of plenty,” he continued.

According to Craigy T, other projects are in the works.

“Just signed off on a mix for a new record for a Brazilian producer today. Look out for various collab projects too. The kings are fully active,” he said.

Rise to the Occasion!

With a musical career spanning three decades, reggae and dancehall icon Sizzla will celebrate his illustrious run on October 19 with a mega concert at Sabina Park.

Promising an evening of epic proportions, the seasoned entertainer says this Heroes Weekend will go down in history as he takes the stage, heart in hand, to gift his fans.

“Sizzla always performs from the heart. Music, for me, is about love and passion. So the energy that I’ll deliver to a crowd of 70,000 people is the same energy that I’ll deliver to a crowd of a thousand people or a hundred,” he told the Sunday Observer. Indicating that the work for him has not ceased over his 30 years in the industry, Sizzla said he has honed his craft completely and that ‘Rise to the Occasion’ — as the show has been duly titled — will be a masterful display of his musical growth.

“Sizzla never stops working. There are simple formulas that I have honed over the years and I can tell you confidently that the show will be an atmosphere of love, joy, fun, happiness, and a genuinely good time,” he said. “It’s a live band show, with people celebrating three decades of spiritual enlightenment through the consciousness of reggae music. It’s going to be a festive environment where you can support the artisans in the ‘Da Real Ting’ artisan village and enjoy good food and listen to world-class music. This show was intentionally curated and it’s gonna be a vibe!”

Sizzla says he is particularly excited about delivering a show alongside musical brothers from his backing band. He shared that rehearsals have been ongoing and that the band will take his set to unmatched levels.

“Communication, building a good relationship with the band is important; the band is like a second family. We’re there for each other, helping out in situations that are not related to the show. This helps to build synergy,” he said. “With a live band there is a more spiritual connection to the audience. They are seeing the music being played with the instruments before their very eyes. This is the time when the people are more connected to the music because they’re not just listening to the artiste and his performance, but they’re now looking and observing an entire band.”

In addition to a live band, Rise to the Occasion will see several guest performances from the likes of I Wayne, Jesse Royal, Andrew Tosh, Christopher Martin, Iba Mahr, T’Jean, Spragga Benz, Turbulence, Fantan Mojah,Ninja Kid, and others. Sizzla says getting his colleagues on board was an easy task as support comes naturally for like-minded entertainers.

“Music is a family; we’re like brothers and sisters from different parents. So supporting each other and showing up for each other is most naturally a part of the music,” he said. “We respect each other, we look to each other, and we support each other, because it’s not always easy being an artiste, and who better to understand you than someone who has undergone the challenges and difficulties in the industry.”
