‘Gully Gad’ Mavado returns to Jamaican stage at December concert

Dancehall artiste Mavado will host his first major concert on home soil in almost a decade. Dubbed the Return of the Gully Gad, the concert is scheduled for Plantation Cove in St Ann on December 27.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the organisers of Reggae Fest. Event organisers are looking to rewrite history once more after leading the charge on Vybz Kartel’s back-to-back sold-out shows at the Barclays Centre in New York back in April.

The event is once again being powered by CJ Milan, who played an integral role in Vybz Kartel’s historic United States (US) comeback after 13 years behind bars.

After years away in the United States, David ‘Mavado’ Brooks returned to Jamaica for the first time last week.  The internationally acclaimed dancehall artiste, who hails from Cassava Piece in St Andrew, made a quick stop to enjoy a coconut jelly to “wash off his heart” before heading to a late-night boardroom meeting at the S Hotel in Kingston. A warrant that was out for the deejay’s arrest since 2018, where he was wanted for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, was lifted, prompting the deejay’s return.

Observer Online understands that the complaint was made by Anthony Goulbourne after he was arrested and charged for allegedly shooting at the entertainer.

Reminiscent of Vybz Kartel’s return to the local stage in December 2024, the show is expected to attract thousands of patrons locally and internationally. Tickets go on sale Thursday, October 23rd, at 10:00 am via reggaefest.com.
