After releasing two critically acclaimed albums, 2021’s 438 and 2023’s Def Jam Recordings-distributed Generation of Kings, dancehall artiste Masicka previews his forthcoming album with the release of the first single, Keys.
Released today, October 10, the track is produced by Westen Weiss. It delivers a fusion of smooth melodies, lyrical precision, and emotional depth that fans have come to expect from the hitmaker.
“Baby your body speaks to me, free to me, she got the keys to my heart,” Masicka croons, blending sultry vocals with his signature flow.
Keys explores themes of love, connection, and vulnerability, showcasing a more melodic and introspective side of the artiste, while maintaining the confidence and wordplay that have cemented his place as one of dancehall’s most consistent and compelling voices.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer’s Splash on Thursday, Masicka said Keys was not a new direction for him musically.
“It’s not really a new direction; I’ve always made songs for the ladies. From early inna mi career mi have tracks that speak to that side, but Keys just shows another level of artistry. It’s about balance and versatility — still keeping the message, the delivery, and the energy that people expect from Masicka, but in a way the women can feel and connect with too,” Masicka explained.
This was Masicka’s first time collaborating with producer Westen Weiss, who has an impressive list of credentials having produced the #1 Urban Rhythmic Radio hit Going Bad by Meek Mill featuring Drake, Easy by Camila Cabello,
Spicy by Ty Dolla $ign and Post Malone, Shoot it Myself by Future and EST Gee, and My Little Baby by Lil Nas X.
Weiss has also worked with Katy Perry, Shenseea, Rema, Fireboy DML, Roddy Ricch, Bebe Rexha, Chris Brown, among many others.
Said Masicka: “This was actually the first time mi and Westen link up pon a track, but from the first beat mi could tell him have a real ear for music. The chemistry was natural — he sent the rhythm and right away mi get the vibe. It has that smooth, melodic feel, but still with a certain energy. From there everything just flowed. Big up Westen, real talented producer.”
The official music video for Keys was shot on location in Portland and directed by Shane Creative. It was produced by 4FortyFour Atelier. It captures the lush, romantic scenery of the parish and complements the song’s sensual message and emotional depth.
“Keys represents a new energy and space for me. It’s about love, but also about trust and giving someone access to your heart. As an artiste, I’m showing more emotion, more layers; its growth,” Masicka said.
Following the success of Generation of Kings, Masicka continues to evolve his sound and storytelling, bridging dancehall with R&B and contemporary Caribbean fusion.
